The Dunedin Unicyclists were thrilled to have like-minded visitors from overseas. When we arrived on Friday, there was a meeting with a newspaper reporter and a photographer, which led to a large article on the front page of the Saturday edition of The Otago Daily Times. So the whole town was aware of our arrival and the purpose of our visit. The term VIP is a bit strong, but we did attract a fair bit of local attention. And at faraway Auckland Airport, Martins baggage handler spied his Coker and had heard a radio report about the group.

By Saturday night, we had all arrived safely, although Rogers unicycle had chosen to abandon him at Dubai Airport. At a short briefing session, Ken reminded us to tie our shoelaces carefully, to avoid an unpleasant faceplant if they tangle with the pedals; and Connie, our support crew, laid out her meticulously prepared maps, route information and luggage tags, giving us confidence that we were in safe hands. This was followed by a trip up Signal Hill to enjoy the twilight.

Special thanks must go to Dave Goodman, a local unicyclist, for his hospitality and assistance as soon as unicyclists started arriving in Dunedin. He had taken the early arrivals to see penguins on the peninsula, and made us all feel very welcome.
